THE HUT

Guido rey hut

history

The hut was established in 1938 as a military building supporting the barracks that guarded the French border. After the war period ended, it remained unused for several years until it was entrusted to the UGET section of Turin of the Italian Alpine Club.

In 1956, it was inaugurated as a mountain hut and dedicated to Guido Rey—an alpinist, writer, and photographer, often called the “Poet of the Mountain.”

In 1962, with the opening of the Beaulard ski resort, the structure was expanded with the addition of a two-story building connected to the original one to accommodate the increasing number of visitors.

In 1992, the ski resort was closed, and the ski lifts were dismantled. Since then, the hut has continued to welcome and provide refreshment to hikers and mountain enthusiasts visiting the area.

The mountain is made for everyone: for those who seek rest in quiet, as well as for those who find an even greater rest in effort

Upper Susa Valley

Located at 1,761 meters, at the edge of a large coniferous forest, the hut offers a panoramic view of the valley and is overlooked by some of the most striking mountains in the Susa Valley. Above the hut, one can easily recognize Punta Clotesse, Grand’Hoche, the Arbour Needle, and Punta Charrà, which form the watershed with the French Clarèe Valley

The structure is spread over three above-ground floors and features a panoramic terrace overlooking the valley. The structure is open throughout the summer, offering bar and restaurant services, as well as the possibility to stay overnight

the hut manager

pierre vezzoli

A geologist and mountain lover, he led a peaceful life. In the winter of 2021, during a walk near the Guido Rey hut, there was little snow and a lot of ice: he slipped and hit his head hard. Upon waking up, he decided to resign from his permanent job and take over the management of the hut.

In June 2022, a new adventure began, and the Guido Rey hut reopened its doors after two years of closure
